Your Question Was...
How do I set different permissions to files and directories?
The following are UNIX commands which need to be entered via telnet.  If you do not have telnet activated on your account, please click here.
  • chmod 644 filename You have read and write permissions. Rest have only read permission.
  • chmod 755 filename You have read, write, and execute permissions. Rest have read and execute permissions. All directories must have this permission, unless specifically instructed by some script.
  • chmod 700 filename You have read, write, and execute permissions. Rest have no permissions at all.
  • chmod 766 filename You have read, write, and execute permissions. Rest have only read and write permission.
To read more about command "chmod", run "man chmod" via telnet. Many FTP programs, including WS_FTP, also offer "permission update" functionality.
